Overview

Swing from yarn, brave new heights, and meet cute critters along the way. 'Meowntaineer' was developed by our team in 1 week as part of Godot Wild Game Jam #73. Taking inspiration from the jam's theme 'Tower', we created a 2D puzzle platformer where the player takes the role of a small cat ascending their looming cat tower.

 

The game's central narrative also centered around a bonus theme, 'Did You Know', including small facts with each of our cat NPCs and theming their dialogue, speech patterns, and visuals around the fact they provided.

The end product was rated #26 out of 153 entries, praised for its aesthetic and design.

Gameplay

What I Did

  • Designed and implemented core level design

    • Created puzzles with a key focus on three stage level design: Introduce the player to a mechanic, complicate the mechanic, place the mechanic in a new context

  • Blocked out level designs, playtested, and refined throughout the development process

  • Collaborated in primary mechanic design and specifications

  • Designed the narrative experience and cat dialogue

    • Collaborated with our artist to give each cat a unique style and personality, aiming for memorable moments for players
