Overview
Made for 'Road Trip Jam 2025', my role on the team was handling the primary level and game design, as well as the core programming within Unreal Engine 5.
Throughout the project, my role focused on:
-
Level blockout: Using UE5 terrain tools, modelling mode, and primitive objects
-
Blueprint Scripting: Creating and implementing key gameplay mechanics of combat, traversal, and level events
-
Team Production: Managed team to keep on top of priority tasks, and ensure all work was implemented for final release deadline
Gameplay
What I Did
-
Designed level encounters from sketch to final art pass
-
Adhered to the restriction of keeping each encounter bite-sized, while also offering a unique approach to match the planned gameplay
-
Worked to a tight deadline while balancing other responsibilities
-
-
Scripted all core gameplay features using Unreal Engine's Blueprint system
-
Created a custom dialogue system to manage branching dialogue and varying NPCs, while also focusing on scalability to reduce future workloads
-
Built a simple combat system using line traces on attached weapons, usable by both the player and AI enemies
-
Implemented level streaming to improve transitions between encounters and have audio operating across levels
